PETKIT Compatible Litter: What to Use
PETKIT compatible litter should clump firmly, fit the sifter installed in your machine and stay within the stated particle limits. For Pura Max 2, PETKIT specifies the standard sifter for tofu and mixed litter, and the honeycomb fine sifter for mineral litter. Its manual advises against particles longer than 12 mm or wider than 3 mm. Terra uses 2 to 3 mm granules and has been tested by petabite with five PETKIT models.
What makes litter compatible with a PETKIT machine?
PETKIT machines separate clean litter from waste as the cylinder turns. Loose granules need to pass through the installed sifter. The finished clump needs to remain behind and move into the waste bin.
This makes compatibility a system question. Material, particle dimensions, sifter choice, clumping speed, clump strength and fill level all matter. A litter described as clumping can still perform poorly if its pieces are too large for the sifter or if the clump breaks during rotation.
| Check | What PETKIT guidance indicates | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Clumping | Use clumping litter and favour fast, firm clumps | Weak or slow clumps can break or leave streaks |
| Sifter | Match the sifter to larger or finer particles where the model includes both | The wrong screen can discard clean litter or retain loose granules |
| Particle size | Current Pura Max 2 and Purobot Ultra guidance limits length to 12 mm and width to 3 mm | Oversized pieces may not separate cleanly |
| Fill level | Keep litter at or below the marked maximum line | Overfilling can change movement and send clean litter toward the bin |
| Placement | Use a hard, level surface with the clearance stated for the model | Weight readings depend on correct installation |
PETKIT litter requirements by model
Pura Max 2
The Pura Max 2 manual identifies two different sifters. The standard sifter is intended for tofu and mixed litter. The honeycomb fine sifter is intended for mineral litter. PETKIT says not to use particles larger than 12 mm in length or 3 mm in diameter.
Add litter in Maintenance Mode. Do not exceed the maximum line on the litter pad. After filling, use the Level Cat Litter function so the bed is distributed as the machine expects.
Purobot Ultra
PETKIT says Purobot Ultra includes two sifters and works with most clumping litter. It advises against litter longer than 12 mm or wider than 3 mm. The same product guidance recommends fast, firm clumping when cylinder streaking occurs.
Purobot Max Pro 2, Pura Max and Pura X
These machines have their own cylinder, sifter and setup instructions. Do not assume that a numeric limit or sifter direction for a newer model applies unchanged to an older one. Check the manual supplied with the exact machine, use its marked fill level and follow its levelling or reset process.
petabite has tested Terra with Purobot Ultra, Purobot Max Pro 2, Pura Max 2, Pura Max and Pura X. That testing confirms the listed Terra and machine combinations. It does not replace PETKIT’s instructions or imply an endorsement from PETKIT.
How to choose the right PETKIT compatible litter
Begin with the installed sifter
The sifter determines which loose particles return to the bed. On Pura Max 2, PETKIT separates larger tofu and mixed particles from finer mineral particles by supplying different sifter designs. Confirm which sifter is fitted before judging the litter.
If clean litter enters the waste bin, inspect the sifter and particle dimensions first. Our automatic box granule size guide explains how length, width and shape affect separation.
Look beyond the word clumping
The clump must form before the cleaning cycle and remain intact while the cylinder turns. A slow clump can smear. A fragile clump can break into damp pieces. PETKIT’s current guidance favours fast, tight clumping when streaking occurs.
If residue remains, check the cycle delay, moisture load, litter depth and condition of the litter pad together. Use the automatic box sticking guide to isolate one cause at a time.
Keep the bed within the marked line
Do not add extra litter to compensate for a weak formula. Keep the bed at or below the maximum line for the model. Excess litter can change the load and move unused granules into the waste path. For a broader explanation of litter depth, see how deep cat litter should be.
Protect accurate weight readings
PETKIT directs owners to place current machines on a hard, level surface and maintain the stated clearance from walls. Treat that placement as part of litter setup. A compatible formula cannot correct an unstable base or an obstruction around the machine.
If an alert or reading changes, preserve the exact message before cleaning or resetting. Our automatic box sensor guide explains how to separate litter dust from placement, fill and maintenance issues.
Where Terra fits
Terra is the first cat litter designed for automatic litter boxes. It combines cassava and bentonite in a clumping blend built around granule consistency, weight and clump strength. Its finished granules measure 2 to 3 mm.
That size sits within the 3 mm width limit PETKIT publishes for current Pura Max 2 and Purobot Ultra guidance. The blend has also been tested by petabite with the five PETKIT models listed above. Use the sifter and fill procedure required by your machine.
For comparison across automatic box designs, read the main automatic litter box guide.
A careful first fill
- Confirm the exact PETKIT model and read its current litter instructions.
- Identify the installed sifter and the litter format it is designed to handle.
- Place the machine on the surface and with the clearance required by PETKIT.
- Add litter in the prescribed maintenance position.
- Keep the bed at or below the marked maximum line.
- Run the model’s levelling or reset function after filling.
- Observe one cleaning cycle and inspect the waste bin for clean litter.
- Check the next clumps for breakage, smearing and clean release.
If the machine and litter are both new to your cat, change one variable at a time. The automatic box transition guide provides a measured sequence.
Common PETKIT litter problems
| What you observe | Check first |
|---|---|
| Clean litter in the waste bin | Sifter choice, particle dimensions and fill level |
| Wet streaks on the cylinder | Clumping speed, cycle timing and litter pad condition |
| Clumps breaking during rotation | Clump strength and moisture load |
| Weight reading changes | Hard level placement, wall clearance and the required reset |
| Cat avoids the machine | Texture change, entry comfort, sound and transition pace |
Frequently asked questions
Can PETKIT use tofu litter?
Pura Max 2 guidance assigns tofu and mixed litter to the standard sifter. The litter still needs to clump and remain within the particle limit. Other PETKIT models may use a different sifter, so check the exact manual.
Can PETKIT use mineral or clay litter?
Yes, current PETKIT guidance includes clumping mineral and clay formats. Pura Max 2 assigns fine mineral litter to the honeycomb fine sifter. Keep the bed within the maximum line and use the machine’s levelling function after filling.
Why is my PETKIT dumping clean litter?
The installed sifter may not match the particle format, the pieces may be too large, or the bed may be overfilled. Check those variables before changing a sensor or mechanical setting.
